The call
Put the call on speaker and set the phone down on the table. Scudo listens, and speaks up when it hears the lines scammers use: the fake bank officer, the grandchild in trouble, the technician asking for a code.
The message
Paste the text, or photograph the screen it arrived on. Scudo reads it, says whether it is a scam, and what gave it away.
The link and the QR code
Before you tap an address or point the camera at a sticker on a parking meter, Scudo looks at where it actually leads.

These are not estimates. They are four test benches, and the commands to run them again are at the end of this section.
Blind test bench: messages collected from sources that took no part in writing the detection rules. On the same bench, before the measuring work, it caught 12%: the in-house tests said everything was fine.
This is the number that decides whether the application stays on the phone. One that cries wolf gets deleted the week after, and then it protects nobody.
Photographing another phone's screen, tilted and catching the glare, is how people actually use this.
Across 40 texts taken word for word from the FTC, the BBB and CERT. Before this work it was zero.
Three scams out of four, not all of them. Scudo helps you decide, it does not decide for you: if something feels wrong, hang up anyway.

What never leaves the phone
Recognition happens on the device itself. The conversation is not sent anywhere, and no record of it is kept.
- It does not ask you to sign up, does not ask for your number, does not ask for your contacts.
- It does not ask for access to your accounts, and does not need it to work.
- It keeps no archive of what it hears or what it reads.
- The only thing that can leave, and only if you choose it, is a scam you received: and that happens after you have read back a version already stripped of your name, bank details, card numbers, tax code and email.
This page works the same way: no cookies, no analytics, no external server contacted. Not even for the typeface you are reading.
Where it is not there yet
Call listening has been tested against scripts and recordings, not yet against a speakerphone in a real house, with noise around it and a loudspeaker in between. Until that test is done we promise nothing about listening. Message, link and QR checking is measured, and the numbers are above.
The application itself is in Italian. Scams written in English are recognised, the buttons around them are not translated yet.
And one limit holds always: Scudo knows the moves scammers use today, and they invent new ones every month. That is why the application carries a button to report what you received. That is how it learns.
Putting it on the Home screen
There is nothing to download from a store. Scudo opens in the browser, and from there it becomes an icon like any other. After that it starts even with no signal.
iPhone
- Open Scudo in Safari.
- Tap the Share button, at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll the list and tap Add to Home Screen.
Android
- Open Scudo in Chrome.
- Tap the three dots at the top right.
- Tap Install app, or Add to Home screen.
Scudo is free and asks for nothing.
Open it and it works. If it helps one person, it has done its job.
